Mushroom Forage & Feast

Mushroom season is fast approaching and Mendocino County’s celebrated annual Wine & Mushroom Festival is upon us. From November 4th-13th, join others in a rich tradition of foraging for delectable, edible mushrooms from chanterelles to porcinis and hedgehogs, and indulge in culinary creations, pairing workshops, and an impressive array of special events and surprises.
The ideal pairing of Pinot Noir and mushrooms are certainly one of life’s simple pleasures, and this special time of year offers us the opportunity to pay tribute to the noble fungi! With this in mind, Toby and Natacha would like to create an educational event around mushrooms and wine and offer an intimate event for six of our wine club members at our home and winery.
Details
This unique event is planned for Saturday, November 12th at the Phillips Hill Winery and will begin at 2:30pm with Dave, a local mushroom specialist, who will guide guests on a mushroom hunt across Toby’s 30 acre, heavily wooded property. On the expedition, the basics of how to find and identify mushrooms will be covered.
Once the basket is full, guests will return to join Chef Rocco of Oui Cook in Toby’s kitchen to learn the best ways to clean and prepare the bounty. At this time, guests will have the choice to stay in the kitchen and learn from the chef, or they can join Toby in the winery for some barrel tasting.
Then, at approximately 5pm guests will reconvene for a mushroom-inspired dining experience in Toby’s house with the Chef, the mushroom specialist and Toby to enjoy a sumptuous dinner thoughtfully paired with a special Pinot Noir.
Phillips Hill Winery is on a 30 acre forested parcel on Greenwood Road, in the Mendocino Ridge Appellation, 7 miles from Philo and 10 miles from Elk. This unique event is limited to 6 Wine Club Members only. Reservation required. Cost: $70 per person. We will have a drawing for the 6 guests on October 24.
